That's so awesome that Tina Fey is going to be Vice President. She's hilarious!
The RNC so far is about as exciting as Bingo Night. And attended by the same crowd, too - I mean how many 70+ people did they show? And after watching the DNC, it felt like Entourage ended and someone changed the channel to The Golden Girls.
But remember, if there's one thing old people do, it's vote. With a vengeance. What else do they have to do? The DNC was filled with celebs the likes of Julia Stiles and Clay Aiken. Sure they're around when the cameras flash, but when the voting booths open, they'll be passed out in John Stamos' hot tub.
Man, there are a lot of old white people in the audience. John Stewart must be having a field day with this.
To recap what I've seen so far, there have been a number of really boring speeches. Mitt Romney set the stage for a 2012 campaign with a pretty far-right agenda. Rudy Giulliani actually had decent charisma and rhtyhm, and went after Obama pretty hard. Too bad his politics scare the heck out of me.
Drill, baby, drill? Dumb baby dumb.
And now Sarah Palin. Content aside, I thought she was a good speaker. Especially compared to the snoozers that preceded her. Content not aside, her speech was pretty much the same high-rhetoric, low-content, fact-twisting speech of all speeches in both conventions. Hopefully we'll get into policies soon.
It's pretty clear that the Republicans have swung this far back to the right, and this is going to be a fight. In the coming months we'll no doubt see many people in their 20's and 30's pumping Obama. But we'll also be getting calls from Estelle Getty pumping McCain. And complaining about Blanche.

Elections have been won from influence beyond the grave (1960 in Chicago for one), but I don't think anyone is going to be getting a call from Estelle Getty.

Roller, I can't believe you call yourself a blogger when you can't keep up with the news of Golden Girls passing away. Sure you watch "conventions" and "Lost" but are you really someone America should be listening to when casting their vote?
Vote Ditka in '08!!
Great post. Hilarious. A friend of mine is a reporter from D.C. who works for a CA paper and was thus assigned to follow their delegation throughtout the DNC and RNC. He got me into a GOP after party (paid for by Schwarzanegger, though the good governor didn't show) and it was definitely a bunch of old people in fairly formal clothes listening to jazz.
Ben told me that by contrast the DNC parties had Death Cab for Cutie and Sarah Silverman MC'ing and everyone was wearing jeans.
Is that really the main line between the two parties?
(at least I got a free copy of T-3 on my way out)
All respect to Estelle Getty. I think I heard at one point that she was the youngest of the 4 actresses on G-squared (that's what us hard core fans call it). It still tans my hide that she didn't win an Oscar for her work in "Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot!"
The Governator! Good stories about the after parties... you almost wonder if the attendees truly create those scenes, or if they're all living up to what they think it's supposed to be.
I can't think of a DNC after party without picturing Bill Maher running around to everyone telling Bush knock-knock or farting jokes.
I heard that too Matt, but in fact she was only the third youngest. Rue McClanahan was in fact the youngest. I just saw Betty white on Craig Ferguson's show the other day. Still at it after all these years. Good for her.
Did you know that all 4 women from that show won an Emmy for their roles? Amazing.
This entire blog is now starting to predict the future.
I think it's funny Palin admits she dressed up as Tina Fey before...

Roller, have you dressed up as Stamos before?
